PREVIEW: Rodin Cars NEW 2500m2 Supercar Manufacturing Facility - Build Story

A year ago, Rodin Cars began drafting plans for an enormous expansion to our design and production facility. Using the same sophisticated computer design programmes that we employ to design our Rodin FZED and Rodin FZERO track cars, we created a blueprint for a 2500-square-metre facility that will house all of our design and production works under the one single-span roof. The multi-million dollar facility will house a full supercar engine production facility (including casting, 3D printing, machining, and assembly), engine test lab, and heated paint booth with downdraught extraction. Jamie Chadwick now holds the fastest lap record at the Rodin Cars test track in New Zealand. She came to visit the facilities in the picturesque South Island earlier this year to undertake some driving and development work with the engineers and founder, David Dicker, in order to further progress the continued optimization of the Rodin FZED. Here is the session - from start to finish (so, get some popcorn because its an epic 8 minutes long!) where Jamie recorded her fastest speed in the FZED (4:49 - if you are looking for it!) and clocked her fastest lap (6:24 if you want to jump ahead!).

Come on a journey with two of our Composite Technicians at Rodin Cars as we take you through two of the carbon fibre methods that are used to manufacture individuals parts on the Rodin FZED and FZERO. In this video Jamie and Jacob will give you a little insight into how the FZED Data Logger Mount and the PDU Mount are fabricated. Jamie explains how the Infusion Method uses dry fibres laid into a mould, put under vacuum, and are infused with resin. Whereas, Jacob talks us through the Pre-preg Carbon Fibre Method, which involves cutting the pre-preg carbon fibres out on the table cutter, laying the pre-pregs into the mould, vacuuming the mould, and then putting the piece into the autoclave where it is baked under high temperature and high pressure to complete the final product. Ever wondered how you get into motorsport engineering? What is a development driver and what do they do? What is it like to be an engineer? What subjects do you need to take at school? We asked Professional Racing Driver and Rodin Cars Development Driver, Jamie Chadwick, to let us know a little background information around how she got into racing, what her role with Rodin Cars involves, and how a Development Driver works with the engineering team to improve the performance of the Rodin FZED and FZERO supercars. We also had a chat with 4th year engineering student from Monash University, Jessica Lee, who is also the Electrical Systems Manager for the Monash Motorsport Formula SAE team - a program which sees student-lead teams from all over the world design, build and compete against each other with their own race cars (check it out here: https://www.monashmotorsport.com/). F2 Red Bull Driver, Liam Lawson: Rodin FZED vs GP2

Liam Lawson recently visited the Rodin headquarters in the South Island of New Zealand to assist our engineers with the further testing and development of the Rodin FZED; a formula-styled, single-seat, private-use track car designed for ease of use and pure driving pleasure. Whilst Liam was in New Zealand during the off-season, before his return to racing and an intense schedule with both the 2021 F2 Series and the DTM ahead of him as a Red Bull Junior Driver, we asked him to get behind the wheel of the Rodin FZED and allow us to perform some specified engineering tests requiring high-speed performance of the vehicle. He was at the top of our list for drivers to perform these tests for us. Despite some technical difficulties throughout the day, it was a highly productive session for our team of engineers and the further refinement of the Rodin FZED into the leading, private-use track car available for the most adventurous of car collectors, was achieved. We will be getting Liam back for more seat time in the Rodin FZED as soon as we can!

Full press release below; Kiwi Teenage Driver (Louis Sharp) One Step Closer To Formula One Dream! 14-year-old racing driver Louis Sharp has today moved a step closer to realising his Formula One dream, being confirmed as a driver for the prestigious motor racing team Carlin in the upcoming 2022 British Formula 4 season. The Christchurch teen will head to England this weekend to begin testing with Carlin, the same team kiwi driver Liam Lawson has joined for the 2022 Formula 2 season. Louis Sharp says he’s still pinching himself he's joining such an illustrious team. “It's all a dream come true. I'm excited to kick off my journey with Carlin, the same team as Liam where the likes of Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo also raced,"  says Louis. Sharp and Lawson's close links don't end there, both are being backed by Rodin Cars in Mt Lyford north of Canterbury. Rodin’s Founder David Dicker, who has an eye for spotting young motorsport talent, was instantly impressed with Sharp during the Super GT NZ Series in January. “The talent is evident, as is Louis passion, I am happy to support young motorsport enthusiasts helping themselves to succeed,” says Dicker Despite his age, Sharp’s rise up the motorsport ranks has been meteoric. At 12, he was New Zealand’s most successful age group karter, claiming more national titles and series wins than any other age group racer. His success on the world stage also earned him selection into the FIA Academy as one of the world’s most promising talents. He was also hand-picked by kiwi Supercars ace Fabian Coulthard for the Australia Young Driver Scholarship. Coulthard says the 14-year-old is defying his age. "I've watched Louis' performances over the years, and he has impressed with not only his ability on the track but also his maturity. I know Louis will get the job done wherever he races," says Coulthard. Incredibly after switching from karts and making his Formula Ford debut in October 2021 Sharp is already sitting on top of the championship leaderboard. And just last month he tested the Rodin Cars Formula 3 car, breaking the F3 Rodin track record previously held by World Champion and professional British driver Jamie Chadwick. “I really enjoyed the opportunity to step into Rodin Formula 3 car. It was heavier and much faster than my Formula Ford to drive, but I really liked it, especially the way the downforce worked when I pushed it hard through the corners to make it fast”, says Sharp. It's that skill and desire that Rodin Cars founder David Dicker believes will see Sharp go all the way and represent New Zealand in Formula One within the next 3 to 5 years. “It’s really up to Louis where this journey will lead him. I have merely absorbed the financial restraints, enabling Louis to focus on what he does best. I have full faith Louis will put New Zealand on the international motorsport map,” says Dicker Despite such lofty predictions, Sharp is keeping his feet firmly on the ground. “My goal is F1, I know there is a lot of hard work required to make it but this support means I can concentrate on being the best I can be on the track,” says Sharp. Now the next step in the journey begins in the Formula 4 series in the UK starting next month. However, Sharp's debut will be delayed by one race as he waits to turn 15 in May... the legal age to drive in the competition. Rodin Cars welcomed reigning W Series champion, Williams F1 development driver and Aston Martin GT race car driver, Jamie Chadwick, to an exclusive five-day test session at its private facility in Mt Lyford, New Zealand. Jamie’s driving talent and technical ability saw her drive the McLaren 570S GT4 and F3 single-seater to get used to the new track layout at Rodin Cars before jumping in a brand new McLaren Senna GTR. After the initial excitement it was into the GP2 race machine – formerly raced by Nelson Piquet Jr in the 2005/2006 season. This all culminated in the main event: the 300km/h Rodin FZED. Chadwick used the track time for a number of test and development sessions and benchmarked the FZED against an original GP2 car. So which car came out on top? It's FZED day! Today Jamie Chadwick gets behind the wheel of the Rodin FZED and takes it through it's paces. The focus of the sessions for the day revolved around determining how the FZED performs on the new sections of the Rodin Stage 3b test track. New setup, custom seat, redeveloped steering wheel are all engineering adjustments and developments that have been worked on over the past 24-48 hours to ensure the FZED is the perfect fit for Jamie.
