RODIN CARS

FACILITY OVERVIEW

Surrounded by the snow capped peaks of New Zealand’s Southern Alps, Rodin Cars’ test facility incorporates three separate loops of test track laid over green and undulating valley terrain. Each track has been specifically designed to allow for Rodin’s inhouse team of engineers to effectively test the innovative engineering and design projects taking place in the expansive state-of-the-art facilities, which includes a machinery collection rivalling even the most dedicated and established of global automotive manufacturers.

The sprawling factory complex at Wandle Downs, near Mt. Lyford in an untouched region of New Zealand’s South Island; is as accomplished as it is unexpected, as picturesque as it is breathtaking. Housing some of the best manufacturing equipment seen in any automotive facility, including one of the largest 3D titanium printers in the world, Rodin is a serious player in the exacting and bespoke market of elite vehicle development.

TEST TRACK CONFIGURATIONS

TEST TRACK

STAGE ONE

The facility’s smallest track is a 200m (100ft radius) skid pad, where fine tuning is calibrated on the steady state handling characteristics of the car. This is the base of all Rodin Cars track development work.

TRACK LENGTH: 0.2KM

TEST TRACK

STAGE TWO

By Dicker’s own admission Stage 2 is nothing short of ‘frightening’. A rollercoaster 2,350m, 12-turn circuit of dips, blind crests and difficult cambers, providing intimidating technical sections over 53m of elevation change. Truly an exhilarating track for both testing the limits of vehicle manufacturing and honing the skills and techniques of Rodin vehicle owners who desire to take on this wild track.

TRACK LENGTH: 2.35KM

CREATING THE

ULTIMATE TEST TRACK

The Rodin Cars Test Track “Stage 1” originally started in 2012 as a small test track with a separate ring configuration in its entirety, measuring a short 0.2km track near the original woolshed. From here the development continued with “Stage 2” created in 2014, a challenging 12-turn circuit of dips, blind crests and difficult chambers with a course length of 2.35km. In 2016 the final track “Stage 3” began and in 2021 this fast-paced track had the final touches put on it which included widening, new curbs and completely new surfacing.
